How to Seize Opportunities

How do we know when something is a good opportunity that we should take?

In business and in life, we make choices every single moment of our lives.

Great leaders take every opportunity to be a step closer to their goals – not away from their goals. In our lifetime, there will be lots of things that would come our way. And many of them will be opportunities.

So how do we know the RIGHT opportunity for us?

I have come up with my own checklist on how do I size if an opportunity is for me or not.

1. Weigh the odds.

We must analyze the opportunities that are laid in front of us. For we may not know which are just sugar-coated and which are true opportunities. And the moment we decide to choose which to pick, it will definitely take our time and effort to know the results. One choice may lead us directly opposite and far away from our goals.

2. Decide carefully, but fast.

When we decide, we have to act fast, but really cautious and not forgetting the details. Time is of the essence, therefore we can’t take so much time just dwelling and trying if some things may or may not work for us. That’s why, when we decide to take an opportunity, let’s not waste too much time trying to figure out things on our own. Because, more or less, things will unfold only after we take actions.

3. Persevere

We must always persevere. Not all will turn out the way we want it to be, so we must strive harder. And even if the opportunity is for us, we must still work hard for it, in order to reach the summit of success.

Just a note:

“Not all that glitters are gold and silver.”

Meaning, not all things which appeared appealing, may really have the great things in store in them . Even, successful businessmen don’t take all the that appeared to be good opportunities for them. Because they are waiting not just for the good, but the BEST opportunity they can get. People like them, don’t settle for something less, that’s why they get the best.

Sometimes, these “opportunities” take you away from the big goal – the very thing – you are really after.

Biblically, Eve ate the fruit because she had an “opportunity” to be as wise as God. And she took it… Look at the result?

But I have to clear some things.

There will be times that we really have to take the risk to try out what we perceived to be an opportunity. Because our success is built on the little successes we get from the opportunities – that brings us to the goal we want to reach.

That’s why it’s critical to choose the “battles” we want to engage into in order to win in the war we call life. 🙂
